Gimli Inspired Helmet and Beard Crochet Pattern

May 15, 2013

Calling all Lord of the Rings fans!  This pattern is inspired by Gimli, son of Gloin from Lord of the Rings. If you, or someone you know, is a Lord of the Rings fan, you won’t want to miss out on this pattern!

This pattern is not for the faint of heart! It is very involved, but you will not be disappointed with the results.

This pattern features a removable beard. Helmet can be worn without the beard. Instructions are included for making the beard a stand-alone piece.

I am working on a larger size (approx. 25”). If you buy this pattern now, I will email you the update when I finish it.

**It’s finally done!  My Gimli pattern is up and ready for sale.  I’ve spent about 3 months on this project and it feels so wonderful to have it done.

Special thanks to Jen Neerhof for putting in so many hours into testing my pattern.  She had some awesome tips and my pattern is so much better after having worked with her!

Pattern Release on the Horizon!

April 29, 2013

Updated May 15, 2013: Pattern has been released!  Gimli Inspired Helmet and Beard Crochet Pattern can be purchased from my Ravelry Store!

Several months ago, I was contacted for a custom order.  They had a picture of a hat they wanted.  I contacted the original designer of that hat, SadDays Crochet, and she kindly gave me permission to use her creation as inspiration and to publish a pattern of my creation.

Using Gimli from Lord of the Rings for reference, I created this helmet and beard.  I am working hard on the pattern and it is currently being tested.  I hope to release it in two weeks. ♥

New Technique: Mirror Crochet

April 24, 2013

Last week, I stumbled across a new crochet technique that I had not heard of before.  Mirror crochet, aka Reverse Single Crochet, was introduced to me by SadDays Crochet.

Check out her video on it!

I’m definitely going to be using this in future projects! ♥

Crochet Blahs

April 8, 2013

I just got back from vacation!  It was marvelous.  I spent a week with my family, basking in the 70+° weather of So Cal.  Once I arrived back home, the weather in my area had finally decided that maybe it was Spring after all.  I’m pretty sure I have spring fever right now.  I’m not really in a mood to crochet!  Although, perhaps later tonight when I’m sitting on the couch watching a movie, I will once again be in the mood.  Until then, I’m going to enjoy my mini break!  On a bright note, I got 3 hats done while on vacation (most while in the airplane or airport).  Not too bad.  :)

New item will be posted later this week!  Hopefully.  ;)

Perfect Crocheting Weather

March 25, 2013

Today was the perfect day to stay at home, snuggle up on the couch, and work on my crochet projects.  I have an especially difficult and time consuming project that could use some extra time.

Alas, I had to go to work.  At least from my desk, I can enjoy the view of pretty snow falling.  :)

The Right Business

March 22, 2013

The other day, in this crochet group I’m part of, the ladies were discussing how many crochet hooks they owned.  Many of them had over 50!  This discussion prompted me to count mine.  I had 35.  Still a lot.  lol

Then on Wednesday night, a lady at my church gave me a little bag.  I was so excited about more crochet hooks, it was ridiculous.  I guess when after several years of crocheting for business, I still get excited about new yarn and new crochet hooks (even though I already had all of the sizes she gave me – two of some of them), it reinforces that I’m in the right business!  :)

One hook is already in use, so it’s missing from this picture. :)

She also gave me two sets of knitting needles.  I’m so terrible at knitting.  I rarely make it past the third row.  These needles inspired me to try to learn again.  My project looks horrific right now, but I think I’m at least doing it right!  I definitely need a lot more practice.

A couple of weeks ago, this same lady had given me three bags full of yarn!  After taking what I wanted, I passed the rest on to a friend.  She gave me a ton of yarn a few years ago too!
